Considerations When Engaging In DIY Installation of Shade Sails
One of the simplest and most convenient ways to add some much-needed shade in your garden while enhancing its beauty is through the use of shade sails. If you have chosen to embark on DIY installation of shade sails on your property, here are some of the considerations that you should keep in mind.
Consider where you will locate the sail
A mistake some people will make is assuming that shade sails can be installed anywhere that shade is required. This is not the case, though. The first thing you should do is scout your property for sections where the shade sail can be attached without the need of putting up poles. Such areas would include walls, trees, a fence and more. Before you attach the shade sail on these areas, you need to ascertain that they would be sturdy enough to keep the shade sail in place.
Another consideration to make when scouting for a location for your shade sail would be the position of the sun. It should be noted that shade from the sun will change position in accordance with the sun's movement. It is only during the throes of summer that you can expect full shade protection from the overhead sun. Therefore, it would be prudent to establish which would be an ideal location for the shade sail based on which areas receive the least amount of shade throughout the day.
Lastly, you would also have to consider the speed and direction of the wind in relation to the location of your shade sail. Since these shades will flutter in the wind, they are better suited being installed in areas that receive minimal wind disturbance. The weaker the wind strength, the less likely your shade sail will become detached from its location.
Consider erection of pole points
If your property does not have structures to attach your shade sails at an ideal installation location, then you should consider erecting pole points to secure your shade sails. When digging the holes for these pole points, ensure that they are deep enough to accommodate at least a third of the pole. This will prevent shallow installation of the poles.
Once the holes are dug, place concrete pavers inside them to provide a solid, flat base for the poles. It is also advisable to consider installing bolts at the bottom of the poles. These can then be affixed to the pavers for further securing of the poles. Once the poles are in place, pour cement in the holes and wait a couple of days for it to dry undisturbed before you attach your shade sails.
